A Better Future For Seafood
With Synthesis Science

We are the new face of aquaculture science – a scientific accelerator created by scientists that want to see positive change in a field that has garnered less attention than other food systems. We are inclusive; celebrating and welcoming collaborators of all races, genders, religions, and identities.

Research Areas

Conservation Aquaculture
is the use of human cultivation of an aquatic organism
for the planned management and protection of a natural resource.

The Conservation Aquaculture Research Team (CART) is a group of experts and analysts in ocean conservation, fisheries and aquaculture (i.e., aquatic farming) sciences. Motivated by our work from the SNAPP Sustainable Open-Ocean Aquaculture Working Group (2015-2017), CART is the next phase of using synthesis science to help guide the fastest growing food sector on the planet to work with, instead of against, the environment. With help from international and domestic partnerships in government, academia, non-governmental agencies, and industry, we want our science to align seafood production with conservation objectives across multiple scales and ecosystems.
